Polarized Sunglasses

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT POLARIZED GLASSES?

Glare can be a big problem for anyone who spends time outdoors. While anti-glare coatings have been available for a while, they tend to be a bit more difficult to clean, leading some glass wearers to avoid them. Another option for glare reduction is polarized lenses. This type of lens helps reduce the glare you get from polarized reflecting light, and can be very helpful in bright environments. The optometrists and opticians at Insight Complete Eye Care in Dallas can help you try polarized sunglasses to see if the level of glare reduction is what you need.

ELIMINATING GLARE AND ENHANCING SAFETY

POLARIZED SUNGLASSES

Polarized sunglasses are made specifically to reduce the glare that occurs when light reflects off of a surface, like a body of water or a street. When sunlight hits a shiny surface, the rays reflect back at you in a very streamlined, directed way. This is light that has been polarized. These directed rays create annoying and distracting glare that can make it difficult to see. Polarized lenses filter out this glare.

For most people, this means more safety on the road when driving. However, polarized sunglasses can also be beneficial to boaters, bikers, golfers, joggers, and tennis players. There are a few activities where polarized lenses may interfere with what you’re trying to do. For example, downhill skiers need to see the glare from icy patches in order to ski safely. But for your average person, polarized lenses make seeing in bright light a lot more comfortable and clear.

Note that polarized lenses help mainly outdoors. If you need anti-glare features indoors, an anti-glare coating or anti-reflective coating may be the best option.

IF YOU DON’T WANT GLARE, POLARIZED MAY BE FOR YOU
